The Qingming<\/b> or Ching Ming Festival<\/b>, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day<\/b> in English,[1]<\/a><\/sup>[2]<\/a><\/sup> is a traditional Chinese festival<\/a> on the first day<\/a> of the fifth solar term<\/a> of the traditional Chinese<\/a> lunisolar<\/a> calendar. This makes it the 15th day after the Spring Equinox<\/a>, either 4 or 5 April in a given year.[3]<\/a><\/sup>[4]<\/a><\/sup>[5]<\/a><\/sup> Other common translations include Chinese Memorial Day<\/b> and Ancestors’ Day.<\/b><\/p>\n Qingming has been regularly observed as a statutory public holiday in China. In Taiwan<\/a>, the public holiday<\/a> is now always observed on 5 April to honor the death of Chiang Kai-shek<\/a> on that day in 1975. It became a public holiday<\/a> in mainland China in 2008.<\/p>\n In the mainland, the holiday is associated with the consumption of qingtuan<\/a><\/i>, green dumplings made of glutinous rice<\/a> and barley grass<\/a>.
